For 7 generations

18th century

Joinery has a long tradition in the Schmidt family and has been handed down from generation to generation. The founder of this tradition was master carpenter Christoph Johann Schmidt. He lived and worked in Magdala in Thuringia in the 18th century.

19th century

His son, Johann Heinrich Schmidt, continued the craft of his father in the 19th century in Magdala, but later moved the company to Olbersleben.

1920

In the 1920s his son in turn, Paul Friedrich Schmidt, acquired the property “Krummegasse 168”, which became the joinery workshop. In 1924 Paul Friedrich Schmidt succeeded in gaining his title of master craftsman and introduced the first woodworking machine in Olbersleben to his father’s business.

After a brief closure during the war years, the master joiner Martini, who came to Olbersleben as a freelance merchant in the furniture trade in 1940, kept the business going.

The 1950s

With Erich Schmidt, the son of Paul Friedrich Schmidt, the company then returned to the Schmidt family in the 1950s. Erich Schmidt also gained the title of master craftsman in 1952.

1992

In 1992Erich Schmidt finally handed over the family business to his son, the master joiner Klaus-Dieter Schmidt. The company is now continuing the tradition of craftsmanship into the 6th generation.

1997

In 1997 Klaus-Dieter Schmidt acquired the property “Buttelstedter Strasse 175”, which then became the registered office of the joinery.

1999

The workshop in Buttelstedter Strasse was expanded in 1999; new work spaces and storage areas were created.

2005

The great-great-great-great grandchild of Christoph Schmidt, Alexander Schmidt, gained his title of master craftsman in the carpentry trade in 2005 upon turning 20 years of age.

2010

In 2010 Alexander Schmidt takes over the family business as the new company owner and transforms the joinery from a pure construction joinery into a modern and innovative construction and furniture joinery.

2015

In 2015 the workshop is expanded by the construction of a storage shed and hall to create more space to accommodate machinery and storage of materials. Through this conversion, working conditions have been significantly improved and adapted to new standards; the establishment of a separate paint shop, among other changes, is a result of this measure. New workspaces and thus new jobs were also able to be created through the creation of new space.

2016

Since 2016 the family business has now operated under the name Schmidt Olbersleben GmbH, Construction and Furniture Joinery.
